In order to live we need a few things...
I want to help you see that you are NOT alone. Don't be scared to ask for help. That is why there are several places in the community that can help you get on your feet. I recommend starting with God. If it is not for you, that is okay. But I promise you, I was in a position a time or two in my life where nothing mattered to me, but me. After years of failing myself, I learned that knowing God was my ONLY way out. I started with the Bible. When I didn't understand it and the only way to know more was to start attending church, I was VERY hesitant. I have been to a few churches where I had to follow rules, had to do this and that, couldn't eat this, had to say that, you were not a member unless you were present every single Sunday... I could NOT be ME. That is not what church is about. Church is about finding Jesus, leading others His way and being the church. Church is about knowing who YOU are IN CHRIST. So, I am providing a few links to help you get started. If you are in need of food...
There are not nearly enough food pantries in Springfield to feed everyone without food. But I pray that will soon change.
Central Illinois Foodbank is the best place to start. They have a list of agencies that provide food. Not each agency is the same. You can reach them by phone at 217-522-4022 or in person at 1937 E. Cook Springfield, IL. 62703
Department of Human Services offer SNAP benefits upon qualification. You can apply online or in person.
Women Infants and Children (WIC) offers nutrition classes, food vouchers, some medical help with children under the age of 5.
The State Board of Education offers reduced lunch programs for students.
Need a place to stay?
Women and children that have been in domestic violence can seek help at Sojourn Shelter. You will have one on one help with an advocate, a room, shower, food and help with transportation.
There are a few. I have a few more places that I am waiting to hear more about. Please check back later for an update.
Another useful place to look is Craigslist. There you can find local jobs, housing and even free stuff! Who doesn't like free?
